About the Creston Community
Creston is a gated mountain community of 138 home sites on 1150 acres. Almost half of the acreage was placed in the protection of the Foothills Conservancy in order to protect our waterfalls and its tributaries from future development. The conservancy is adjacent to Pisgah National Forest with 5 miles of trails, some leading directly into the national forest. The remaining acreage contains plenty of space between home sites (minimum home site is 1 acre) with significant natural “common” areas throughout the community. This common land will remain in its natural state to insure that owner and nature alike can share in this timeless natural reserve with our Triple Falls Sanctuary, abundant wildlife, and native trees and plants.
Creston’s mountain property is the perfect marriage of quiet seclusion and everyday convenience. Our gated mountain community is a place for people who like their privacy, but want the opportunity to get to know their neighbors…perhaps while walking one of the trails that meanders through the Creston reserve, pausing at one of the overlooks, or relaxing at sunset around the fireplace at the Community Center.
But it’s also a place for those who want to stay connected to the world, from cable or satellite television and redundant cable high-speed Internet connections to easy access to the vitality and variety of eclectic Asheville, Black Mountain, Chimney Rock/Lake Lure, Hendersonville, and Montreat.

Emergency Preparedness
Creston is a leader in emergency preparedness as one of only two developments in McDowell County with an integrated emergency response plan. The Creston Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, consists of a planning committee and three teams prepared to assist first responders in the event of an emergency.
The planning committee identifies strengths and weaknesses, and develops action plans that capitalize on our strength to address any weaknesses or threats to the community. The planning committee has met with McDowell’s director of emergency services, the sheriff’s department, and the chief of the local fire department to identify ways we can work together in the event of an emergency. We have also held lectures and training classes for community members to help them be better prepared.
Our three teams consist of a navigation team, medical team, and communications team. Upon receiving a 911 pager alert (two of our team leaders carry pagers at all times), the navigation team helps guide first responders to the scene of an incident. The medical team will provide medical assistance until the paramedics arrive. The communications team provides the community with appropriate information when an incident occurs.
Social Features
Creston also has a wonderfully deep sense of community shown by the friendliness of our neighbors who quickly become great friends. Come to Creston & discover our built-in social network!
We have enthusiastic Volunteer work committees (Landscape, Maintenance) that keep Creston’s roadside parks and roads in tip top shape. The Social Committee plans several get-togethers for one and all up at the Community Center.
Creston’s Quarterly Newsletter – From the Crest – keeps owners not living on the mountain in touch with all that is happening in the Community.
We love to give back – Creston Cares – is our way of caring for those in need in McDowell County. Be it tutoring disadvantage youth or donating blood for an accident victim, we open our hearts to those less fortunate.
Creston Connect helps neighbors find other neighbors who share special interests. Several groups have formed around common hobbies. To name just a few:
- Beer & Wine making
- Book club
- Monthly Ladies Luncheon
- Cooking/Baking
- Weekly Ladies Walk (to the top of the mountain)
- Golf Club
- Power Tool Share
- Hiking
- Dance
- Yoga
So whatever your interests might be, there are bound to be others here on the mountain who’d be delighted to share similar pastimes. Since Creston has so much to offer there is little need to leave the mountain to find camaraderie and interesting things to do! Come join us and enjoy the laid back, engaging mountain lifestyle of Creston Community.
